The Joker by Steve Miller Band

This is the only song on my list that is here simply because I think it's awesome. I don't have a  story to go with it or an emotional explanation. I don't remember the first time I heard it but I know I've always thought it was fantastic. I grew up listening to my mom's music, which is what we now call classic rock, so I was probably exposed to Steve Miller Band from a young age. Pretty much all of their music has a cool sound to me and I've always enjoyed this one in particular. There's something about it. It's got a funky, sexy sound but it doesn't make a whole lot of sense yet it still works! Once I was old enough to think about it, I've always figured the song has to do with sex and drugs but I've tried not to think about it too much so I don't ruin it for myself!


Mike Myer's movie The Love Guru is one of my favorites (and yes, I know it is generally not a popular film but I don't care!) so when this song was featured in a fancy song and dance number at the end, I was thrilled. I was in tears from laughter and had a heart full of joy from hearing one of my favorite songs so I wanted to include this version here too because I love it!

    This song (& band) makes me think of Amy Miskey (RIP) because she loved them and listened to them. It was because of her that I bought the cassette and would take walks and listen to it waaaaay back in the day.
    It is a happy-makes you smile and sing along-kind of song.
    Smiling just thinking about it. ;)

    Those who've come before us who said, "Sex, Drugs & Rock 'n' Roll" obviously forgot about key lime pie, my friends! Their mistake... I get my lovin' on the run.....

    I do remember the first time I heard this song. I was in the car with my cousins and my uncle. It was also the first time i remember hearing "We Will Rock You."

    I seriously heart this song. You cannot listen to it without smiling. One of my favorite memories of this was from my first visit to Las Vegas. We went to this amazing dueling piano bar at NYNY Casino (if you ever go to LV, you must visit). As the piano players were talking up the song, they were making fun of the fact that no one can ever quite remember the words (picker, grinner, etc.) but they always remember "midnight toker" and scream it out. Exactly as in the Love Guru clip! I've never seen that movie, but now I want to. Haha

    Neat story, thanks for sharing! If you like Mike Myers and his style of humor then you will like The Love Guru and I suggest you watch it immediately.
